Getting a Joomla! website started and running it is very simple, but as you go along, you will find features and options that you really wish you had, but may not be able to find. We ran into this case with our own site and TeachMeJoomla was were we found our help. As you design your pages in Joomla! you are given an option to have the article expire on a certian day. This is great, expect that you have to remember to go back in there and archive the article.
One problem with archiving the article is that you have to try and remember to remove the expire date or the article will no longer be active on your site. This can be very time consuming if you have a large site (or even a small one). Search the Joomla.org website, we did not find anything that we felt would work the way that we needed, then we came across the AutoArchive Manbot from TeachMeJoomla.
This manbot is great, everytime an article is viewed on your site, whether by a visitor or webbot, the manbot starts its operation. First it checks to see if any articles have reached their expired date. If it finds an article that has expired, it automatically modifies the expired date to blank, which publishes the page back to the public, then it moves that page from the normal article directory to the archived location.
In one quick step, without your input, all the expired articles (upto your run limit) are automatically republished, but it will be published under the archived location and still be visible for all the world to see. No more worry about an article not be available for your visitors to find. Generally, the manbot will include a small link back to TeachMeJoomla, but can be removed by including a direct link back to them and requesting the removal by contacting them.
